Mittagong sits at the northern gateway to the Southern Highlands, in country that is colder, wetter and windier than anywhere on the coast below. High Demand Electrical is a Level 2 ASP accredited contractor (Licence 397193C) making storm-damaged private poles safe across Mittagong and reconnecting supply to the Endeavour Energy network.

Storm Damage Power Pole Repair in Mittagong
Once a private pole has been damaged, the safe assumption is that the whole private connection needs checking. The service line is still live, the span is loaded at the wrong angle, and the point of attachment and consumer mains have to be proven sound before power goes back on.
We cover Mittagong, Bowral, Welby, Braemar, Colo Vale and Willow Vale with 24/7 emergency power pole service and same-day power pole service where a pole cannot be left standing.
How Urgent Is Your Storm-Damaged Pole?
Why Mittagong Sees So Much Storm Pole Damage
Mittagong sits at the northern edge of the Highlands where the tableland drops away towards the Nattai valley, and that position gives it strong, sustained wind. Cold fronts come through hard here, the wet lasts far longer than it does on the coast, and heavy winter frost is normal. Frost is the quiet killer of timber poles: moisture sitting in the surface checks freezes and expands, opening the grain a little further every season until water is getting well into the shaft.
The tree cover does the rest. Mittagong has mature exotic plantings through the older streets and heavy native canopy on the bush fringes towards Mount Gibraltar and the Nattai country, much of it directly over service lines. Wet, cold-weather timber is heavy and brittle, and when a front comes through after weeks of rain, limbs come down onto spans. Beyond the town centre, rural holdings run long private lines on several owner-maintained poles through that same country.
Mittagong is on the Endeavour Energy network. Endeavour maintains the numbered poles in the street reserve. Every pole past your point of supply — in the yard, down the driveway or out in a paddock — is a private pole and the owner carries responsibility for it.
Choose Your Situation — See What We Do
What Happens When Your Mittagong Pole Comes Down
- Keep clear and report. Stay at least 8 metres from a conductor on the ground, keep children, pets and stock away, and report live wires to Endeavour Energy on 131 003. Then call us.
- Emergency make-safe. We attend, isolate the supply, secure or lower what is unstable, and clear the immediate hazard.
- Assessment. Butt below ground line, cross arms, stays, service cable and point of attachment are all inspected, and on a long private run we check every pole on the line.
- Repair or replacement. Straightening and re-staying where the pole is sound, or replacement in hardwood or composite where it is not.
- Reconnection. We handle disconnection, reconnection and the Endeavour Energy notification ourselves.

Storm Damage We Repair Across Mittagong
Cold, wet, windy country produces a distinctive set of pole failures.
- Rot and frost damage at the ground line — years of freeze and thaw opening the timber up.
- Poles leaning in long-saturated ground — straightened and re-stayed where the butt still holds.
- Heavy limbs across service spans — wet, brittle timber coming down in a front.
- Broken cross arms and cracked insulators — renewed with cross-arm replacement.
- Damaged service cables and terminations — re-run and re-terminated properly.
- Failures on long rural private runs — supply lost to the house, shed and pump at once.
Insurance & What’s Usually Covered
What's typically NOT covered: wear-and-tear, gradual rot or rust, or failure caused by a pre-existing defect notice you hadn't rectified. Our written cause report helps insurers distinguish sudden events from gradual failure — and we handle insurance claims every week.
FAQs
Is the pole on my Mittagong block mine or the network's?
If it is on your land and it carries the service line to your property, it is a private pole and you are responsible for it. Endeavour Energy maintains the numbered poles in the street reserve. Street poles carry a network asset number; private poles generally do not, which is the simplest way to tell them apart.
Does the frost here really damage power poles?
It does, over time. Water sits in the surface checks of a hardwood pole, freezes on cold Highlands nights, expands and opens the split a little wider. Repeat that for enough winters and the shaft is taking water deep into the grain, which is where decay starts. It is one reason poles up here often fail earlier than the same pole would on the coast.

We have a defect notice from the network. Can you rectify it?
Yes. As a Level 2 ASP accredited contractor we carry out defect notice rectification and lodge the completion paperwork with Endeavour Energy for you. The notice sets the rectification period and describes the fault, so have it with you when you call and we can quote the right scope straight away.
Would a composite pole hold up better than timber up here?
In this climate, generally yes. Composite poles do not absorb water, do not rot at the ground line and are not affected by frost or termites, which are the three things that finish hardwood in the Highlands. Timber is cheaper up front and is fine when it is sound and maintained. We install both and will advise based on your span, your soil and how long the run has to last.
How quickly can you get to Mittagong?
We run 24/7 emergency call-outs across the Southern Highlands and can usually be on site within a couple of hours. If you are on a rural block, tell us where on the property the failure is and what the access is like so we bring the right gear the first time.
