Bowral is colder, wetter and windier than the coast, and its mature exotic and native trees stand over service lines on some very established properties. High Demand Electrical is a Level 2 ASP accredited contractor (Licence 397193C) making storm-damaged private poles safe across Bowral and the Southern Highlands, and restoring supply on the Endeavour Energy network.

Storm Damage Power Pole Repair in Bowral
A private pole that has moved in a Highlands blow is a live hazard, not a job for next week. The service line stays energised until it is isolated properly, the point of attachment on the house is loaded the wrong way, and the run into your meter box needs checking before anything is re-energised.
We cover Bowral, Burradoo, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Glenquarry and Berrima with 24/7 emergency power pole service and on-site fallen pole make-safe.
How Urgent Is Your Storm-Damaged Pole?
Why Bowral Private Poles Fail in Storms
The Southern Highlands sit well above the coast, and the weather here behaves differently. Winds are stronger and more sustained than in the Illawarra basin below, the wet is prolonged rather than brief, and heavy winter frost works on timber year after year — water in the checks and splits freezes, expands and opens the grain a little further each season. Add sodden ground that stays wet for weeks and a pole butt has very little margin left when a real blow arrives.
Bowral's tree cover makes the difference. This is a town built around mature exotic plantings as well as native canopy, with large old trees on established properties around Mount Gibraltar and through the older streets, a good many of them directly over service spans. Big deciduous limbs loaded with wet snow, frost or rain drop hard, and they take cross arms, cables and sometimes whole poles with them. Larger holdings on the edges of town add long private runs on several owner-maintained poles.
Bowral is on the Endeavour Energy network. Endeavour maintains the numbered poles in the street. Any pole on your own land carrying your service is a private pole and the owner is responsible for its condition, its repair and any defect issued against it — including poles halfway down a long driveway.
Choose Your Situation — See What We Do
What Happens When Your Bowral Pole Comes Down
- Keep clear. Stay at least 8 metres from any conductor on the ground, keep children and pets inside, and report live wires to Endeavour Energy on 131 003. Then call us.
- Emergency make-safe. We attend, isolate the supply, secure or lower what is unstable, and clear the hazard from the property.
- Assessment. We check the butt below ground line, cross arms, stays, service cable and point of attachment — and on longer runs, every pole on the line rather than only the failed one.
- Repair or replacement. Straightening and re-staying where the timber is sound, or a full replacement in hardwood or composite where it is not.
- Reconnection. We handle disconnection, reconnection and the Endeavour Energy notification in-house as a Level 2 ASP contractor.

Storm Damage We Repair Across Bowral
Highlands weather produces its own pattern of failures, and this is what we are called to most.
- Large limbs down across service spans — mature exotic and native trees dropping heavy timber onto the wires.
- Poles leaning in saturated ground — weeks of wet leaving a butt with nothing to grip.
- Frost-opened splits and advanced rot — the slow damage that a strong wind finally exposes.
- Broken cross arms and insulators — renewed with cross-arm replacement where the pole is serviceable.
- Service cables torn from the point of attachment — re-terminated and refixed to standard.
- Failures partway down long private runs — assessed with inspection and condition reporting across the whole line.
Insurance & What’s Usually Covered
What's typically NOT covered: wear-and-tear, gradual rot or rust, or failure caused by a pre-existing defect notice you hadn't rectified. Our written cause report helps insurers distinguish sudden events from gradual failure — and we handle insurance claims every week.
FAQs
Who is responsible for the pole on my Bowral property?
The property owner. A pole on your land carrying the service line to your meter box is a private pole, and repairs, replacement and maintenance sit with you. Endeavour Energy is responsible only for the numbered poles in the street reserve. On the larger Bowral and Burradoo holdings there is often more than one private pole, and all of them are the owner's.
Will my insurance cover storm damage to the pole?
It depends on the policy, and we cannot advise on your particular cover. Many building policies do treat a private pole as part of the insured structure, though gradual rot and deterioration are commonly excluded even where storm damage is not. A written report describing the damage, its cause and the scope of works is generally what an assessor wants, and we can supply one. Photograph the damage before anything is moved if it is safe.

A large tree limb has come down on our line. What should we do?
Keep everyone at least 8 metres clear and treat the span as live even if your power is off. Do not try to cut or drag the limb — wet timber conducts and the line can re-energise. Report live conductors to Endeavour Energy on 131 003 and call us to isolate the supply, clear the timber and inspect the cable and fittings before reconnection.
Can our pole be repaired, or does it need replacing?
It comes down to what is below the ground line. A pole pushed out of plumb with sound timber underneath can usually be straightened and re-stayed. Where frost and prolonged wet have opened the grain and rot has reached the butt, replacement is the only safe outcome. We excavate and inspect rather than judging from the surface, because Highlands poles very often look far better than they are.
Our driveway has three poles on it. Should we look at all of them?
Yes, and it usually saves money. Poles on the same private run were installed at the same time, in the same soil, under the same trees, so when one fails the others are frequently close behind. We inspect the whole line and report on which poles are sound, which are marginal and which need doing now, so the work can be planned in one go.
