Half my poles are old bushfire-scarred timber. Should I replace them all?
Not necessarily all at once, but they should all be assessed. Char and heat checking open up the timber and speed up rot at the ground line, so a fire-affected pole ages faster than an unaffected one. We can give you a condition report on the whole run and a sensible order to replace them in.
Are composite poles worth it on a rural property?
Often yes, especially on hard-to-access runs. Composite poles do not rot, do not attract termites and hold up far better to fire and heat than timber, so you are not repeating the job in fifteen years on a pole you can barely get a truck to. The up-front cost is higher and the long-run maths usually favours it.
