Overhead to Underground Mains Conversion

Say goodbye to your private pole and overhead wires. We design, trench, conduit, and switch your supply to underground mains — removing the pole entirely and giving your property a cleaner look and more reliable supply.

Why convert overhead to underground?

Underground mains have become the standard on new Sydney developments for good reason: they're more reliable, safer, visually cleaner, and immune to storm damage that brings down poles and service cables. For existing properties, conversion is a one-off upgrade that solves a long list of problems.

Conversion is often combined with a bigger renovation, a solar/battery install, or a pole that's reaching end of life anyway — getting more value from the project than a like-for-like replacement.

Benefits of going underground

No more storm outages

Underground cables aren't affected by fallen trees, high winds, or lightning strikes — the most common causes of pole failure.

Pole removed

Permanent removal of your private pole and all overhead service cabling. Cleaner sightlines, more usable space.

Property value uplift

Underground supply is a clear plus at resale. Buyers don't inherit the future cost of pole replacement.

Room for capacity

New underground mains can be sized for three-phase, solar export, EV charging, or a larger future load.

Our conversion process

  1. Site survey. Assess trenching route, soil, existing services, driveways, landscaping, and network connection point.
  2. Design & network application. Engineer a compliant route, lodge underground connection paperwork with Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy.
  3. Trenching. Dig the cable trench to required depth, avoiding other services.
  4. Conduit & cable. Install conduit, pull new underground mains cable from street pit to your switchboard.
  5. Switchover & pole removal. Network de-energises, we switch supply, remove old pole and overhead service cable.
  6. Restore surfaces. Backfill trenches, reinstate lawn/paving/concrete, tidy up site.
  7. Compliance. Lodge certificate of compliance and network acceptance paperwork.

What affects the price

  • Trenching distance from the street to your switchboard
  • Surface types to cross: lawn (cheapest), pavers, concrete, driveways
  • Underground obstacles: existing gas, water, or communications services
  • Single-phase vs three-phase capacity
  • Switchboard upgrade if existing board is undersized
  • Pole removal complexity (rural, large timber, shared boundary)

A typical residential Sydney conversion on a standard block runs $15,000–$30,000 all-in. We give fixed-price quotes after the site survey — no surprises.
