Are composite poles worth it out here?
On flood-exposed acreage they often are. Composite poles do not rot at the ground line, are not touched by termites and do not degrade sitting in wet soil, which is exactly what kills hardwood on the Hawkesbury flats. They cost more per pole, but on a long private run that has to be re-poled once rather than twice the numbers frequently work out. We install both and will price the run either way.
Will insurance cover a private pole on a rural block?
Some policies do and some exclude poles and lines beyond a certain distance from the dwelling, so check your wording. We cannot advise on your cover, but we can give you a written report describing the damage, the cause and the scope of works, which is what an assessor generally wants. Photograph the failure before anything is moved if it is safe to get near it.
