By the condition of the pole at and below the ground line, not by how it looks from the yard. Sound timber with a lean or broken hardware can be straightened, re-stayed and re-fitted. Rot, a split through the section, or a break means replacement, because a patched-up pole in that state will not survive the next storm. We dig down and check before quoting.
