Nowhere in St George takes the weather quite like Brighton Le Sands. A southerly buster comes straight off Botany Bay across Lady Robinsons Beach and hits the streets behind The Grand Parade with nothing in its way. High Demand Electrical is a Level 2 ASP accredited contractor (Licence 397193C) making storm-damaged private poles safe, repairing or replacing them, and restoring supply on the Ausgrid network.

Storm Damage Power Pole Repair in Brighton Le Sands
A private pole that has been hit by a storm needs attention the same day. Once the shaft moves, the service line is loaded sideways, and that load runs through the point of attachment on your wall and into the consumer mains — all of it the property owner's to maintain, and all of it at risk.
We cover Brighton Le Sands, Monterey, Ramsgate, Rockdale, Banksia and Kogarah with emergency power pole service, immediate fallen pole make-safe, and emergency pole replacement where the pole cannot be saved.
How Urgent Is Your Storm-Damaged Pole?
Why Brighton Le Sands Private Poles Fail in Storms
Brighton Le Sands is beachfront Bayside. The suburb faces west across Botany Bay and the streets running back from the foreshore are effectively a wind tunnel when a southerly change comes through. There is no ridge, no bushland buffer and very little to break the gust before it reaches the back yards where the private poles stand.
Salt is the second problem and the slower one. Airborne salt off the bay settles on cross arms, bolts, stay wires, brackets and the fittings at the point of attachment, and corrosion works away at them year after year. Steelwork that would last decades a few kilometres inland gives up much sooner here. Combine corroded fittings with a timber shaft that has quietly rotted at the ground line and a strong blow finds the weakness immediately.
Brighton Le Sands is supplied by Ausgrid. The numbered poles along the street belong to the network and Ausgrid maintains them. Any pole on your own land carrying the service line to your house is a private pole and the owner's responsibility. We confirm which one you have before any work starts.
Choose Your Situation — See What We Do
What Happens When Your Brighton Le Sands Pole Comes Down
- Stay well back — at least 8 metres from any conductor on the ground, and treat every wire as live. Report downed wires to Ausgrid on 13 13 88 straight away, then call us for the private side of the job.
- We attend and make safe. Supply is isolated, the pole or its remains are secured, and the hazard to your property and the street is removed before anything else happens.
- We assess the pole in full — butt below ground, cross arms, stays, service cable and point of attachment — with particular attention to salt corrosion in the hardware, and advise on straightening versus replacement.
- We carry out the work: cross arm replacement, new service cable, or a full composite pole installation where corrosion and rot mean the old pole is finished.
- We reconnect and notify Ausgrid ourselves. Disconnection, reconnection and the network paperwork are all handled in-house, so you have one contractor from start to finish.

Storm Damage We Repair Across Brighton Le Sands
What we are most often called out to in Brighton Le Sands once a front has been through:
- Salt-corroded cross arms and fittings — bolts, brackets and arms weakened by years of bay air that fail under wind load.
- Poles blown out of plumb — an unbroken pole leaning hard after a buster, with stretched or failed stays behind it.
- Torn service cables — cables pulled off the wall or snapped mid-span, needing service cable replacement and a reinstated attachment point.
- Branch strike from street trees — even limited canopy does damage when the gust is strong enough.
- Rotted timber butts — moisture and salt together shorten the life of a buried timber shaft considerably.
- Repeat damage on exposed frontages — where a property gets hit every storm season, an overhead to underground conversion is worth costing.
Insurance & What’s Usually Covered
What's typically NOT covered: wear-and-tear, gradual rot or rust, or failure caused by a pre-existing defect notice you hadn't rectified. Our written cause report helps insurers distinguish sudden events from gradual failure — and we handle insurance claims every week.
FAQs
Who owns the power pole at a Brighton Le Sands property?
If the pole stands inside your boundary and your service line runs to it, it is a private pole and you own it as the property owner. Ausgrid owns the numbered poles in the street and maintains those. That ownership line decides who arranges the repair and who pays for it.
A branch is sitting across my service line — what should I do?
Leave it alone completely. A branch touching a conductor can be live, and people have been badly hurt trying to shift one. Keep everyone at least 8 metres away, report wires down to Ausgrid on 13 13 88, and call us to isolate and clear it safely.

Are composite poles better near the beach?
They handle the environment well — composite does not rot and is not affected by salt the way timber and unprotected steel hardware are. That matters a few streets back from the bay where corrosion is a constant. Timber is still an option and we fit both, so we will talk you through the trade-off for your site.
Our pole gets damaged nearly every storm season. Is there a permanent fix?
Where a property is badly exposed, converting the overhead service to an underground supply takes the pole and the span out of the weather entirely. It is a bigger job with excavation and network approval involved, but it ends the cycle of repeat repairs. We can inspect the site and set out what would be required.
How long before you can attend after a southerly?
We operate 24/7 and usually reach a Brighton Le Sands job within a couple of hours. A big storm night across the whole network can push that out, and we will tell you honestly where you sit rather than give you a false window. Make-safe is done on the first visit regardless.
